It is the foam-crowned pride of a beer-loving nation:

The German Purity Law, the oldest existing food safety law in the world, is more than 500 years old.

The original Bavarian law of 1516 stipulated that the only permitted ingredients were malt (germinated, dried barley), hops and water. The properties of yeast were not yet known at the time, but it was later permitted, as was wheat, which was originally reserved for baking bread.

Even if the variety of brewing materials is not very large, the more than 1,350 German breweries produce more than 6,000 different beers.

Just try a few different German beers and you will taste the difference.

And since around 400 million liters of beer are exported from Germany all over the world, you might find a few German beers on offer not too far away.

Like the Purity Law, the mugs also served a hygienic purpose (to keep the beer cool (=fresh) and clean).

It was therefore only natural for us at KING Werk to design a very special collector’s item in honor of the brewing trade to mark the 500th anniversary of the law.
