Every year, the Verein – die Schwarzwalduhr (VdS) organizes a competition to choose the most beautiful clock of the year. At the Black Forest Museum Vogtsbauernhöfe in Gutach in the Black Forest, all Black Forest cuckoo clock manufacturers put their clocks up for election. Visitors to the museum vote for the most beautiful clock of the year. This is the winning clock for 2004.
This very large clock features everything that makes up the beauty of a Black Forest farm. The clock’s construction is true to the details of a Black Forest farmhouse, typical shingle roof, partially visible brickwork at the base of the building. The fire bell on the roof is characteristic of the often isolated farmhouses. In an emergency, this bell can be used to call for help quickly. What at first glance appears to be ornamental actually has vital functions for a Black Forest farm.
The central eye-catcher of this clock is the brass band that turns left and right with the music. The Black Forest girl on the left-hand side of the clock rings the bell on the hour. At the same time, the bell on top of the roof in the bell tower moves. All figures and decorative elements are made of wood. Very high-quality dancing figures in traditional Gutach costume.
